Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed into the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge. They are an alternative to traditional bridges or dentures and are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth.
The implant itself is made of titanium, a biocompatible material that is well-tolerated by the body. It is surgically placed into the jawbone and allowed to fuse with the bone over time through a process called osseointegration.
Once the implant has fused with the jawbone, an abutment (a small connector piece) is placed on the implant and a replacement tooth, or a bridge, is then attached to the abutment.
